Analog & Digital Lab Trainer

This was created by Prof. Saliterman to address an urgent need to teach lab courses at home during the COVID pandemic. During the University lockdown students were unable to meet in class to learn electronic circuits, traditionally done with test-bench equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, function generator and power supply), and plug-in style prototyping boards for components. This was replaced by a dedicated board that could be soldered at home, expediting the process and eliminating wiring errors that could not be diagnosed over Zoom. All of the needed supplies, including test equipment were reduced to hand-held instruments and part bags that could be packed into a tote case. The results were nothing less than spectacular, with all students completing nearly every assigned exercise. During the first class, Prof. Saliterman made over a dozen house-calls (using COVID-19 precautions) to assist students with problems, typically from a poorly designed commercial power supply that was replaced the following year. (A repaired power supply was dropped-off and the defective unit picked-up for repair!)
